Biography
Clemens A. Frank joins the Académie of the Opéra national de Paris for the 2024/25 season. Furthermore, in summer 2024 Clemens won 1st Prize at the ZukunftsStimmen competition of KS Elīna Garanča, and was a finalist of the SWR Junge Opernstars 2024 – Emmerich Smola Förderpreis, laureate of the Lions Music Prize Austria and a recipient performance scholarship of the Anny Felbermayr Fund.
Born in Wiener Neustadt, Clemens Alexander Frank studied voice at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna beginning in 2019 in the class of a.o. Univ. Prof. Martin Vacha and Prof. Claudia Visca, where he graduated with honors from the bachelor’s program in fall 2023 and has started the master “Vocal Performance” in the Opera class of C.U. Meier and later in the Lied class of Florian Boesch.
Clemens also made a debut at the Kammeroper in Munich as the Conte in Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro“ during the 2023/24 season.
Recent highlights include the concert series Klassik unter Sternen at Göttweig Monastery and Klassik in den Alpen in Kitzbühel under the musical direction of Karel Mark Chichon, where he was able to impress alongside international stars such as Elīna Garanča, Serena Sàenz and Iván Ayón-Rivas. In addition to a variety of smaller roles and a busy concert schedule, he has already built up a wide-ranging repertoire of major, relevant roles in his home country with his debuts as Papageno at the Klassik.Klang Festival 2022 in Berndorf under the direction of KS Daniela Fally, as Herr Fluth in Nicolai’s “Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor” under the musical direction of Hartmut Keil and in the title role in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” at the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre. With the role of Dr Falke in “Die Fledermaus” in Vienna in April 2023 and shortly afterwards in Offenbach’s “Orpheus in der Unterwelt” at the Pramtaler Sommeroperette, he also made his debut in the operetta repertoire, which he has since grown particularly fond of. Later that year, he returned to the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre as the Gran Sacerdote in Mozart’s “Idomeneo” under the direction of Michael Sturminger and the musical direction of C.U. Meier.
