Biography

In the 2025/26 season, Maximiliano Danta will make his debut at Teatro Massimo in Palermo under the baton of George Petrou, performing the role of Pippetto in Donizetti’s Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali. In May 2026, he will appear as a contestant in the European Baroque Contest with Lautten Compagney Berlin at Stadttheater Schaffhausen.

Maximiliano gave a highly acclaimed debut at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as Sesto in Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto in December 2025. This season also includes performances as Ottone in Villa with the Georgian Sinfonietta (February–March 2026) and a concert appearance with Accademia Bizantina under Ottavio Dantone in Bucharest, where he performed the role of Fama in F. B. Conti’s Il trionfo della fama. In June 2025, he received great critical acclaim for his portrayal of Paggio in Cavalli’s Ercole Amante at Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona.

Earlier that year, he made his Vienna Konzerthaus debut with his ensemble L’humàna fragilità and performed at the International Bach Festival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. In February 2025, he first appeared as Sesto at Opéra de Tenerife with Accademia Bizantina under Ottavio Dantone and staging by Bruno Berger-Gorski.

A native of Uruguay, Maximiliano Danta is the 2024 First Prize Winner of the renowned International Singing Competition for Baroque Opera “Pietro Antonio Cesti,” one of the most important competitions dedicated to baroque music. He began his vocal studies with Beatriz Pazos and earned a degree in Renaissance and Baroque Singing from the G. Cantelli Conservatory in Novara under Roberto Balconi. Currently he studies chamber music for early instruments and voices at the G. Verdi Conservatory in Turin with Andrea Marchiol and pursues instrumental studies on the cornetto and lira da gamba with Jean Tubéry, Maurizio Less, and Sabina Colonna Preti.

He has been invited to festivals such as the Festival of San Ignacio de Loyola (Argentina), the International Festival of American Renaissance and Baroque Music (Bolivia), the International Festival of Sacred Music (Ecuador), and in Italy the Marchesato Opera Festival, MiTo Settembre Musica, Back to Bach, Festival delle Nazioni, Festival Federico Cesi, and Antiqua. In France, he has appeared at Rencontres Baroques du Montrat, Claviers en Pays d’Auch, and L’Été. He has collaborated with renowned artists including Gabriel Garrido, Massimiliano Toni, Luca Guglielmi, Gerd Amelung, Claudio Chiavazza, Paolo Da Col, Ruben Jais, Roberto Balconi, Elena Camoletto, and Cristina García Banegas.

His operatic roles include Cupid in John Blow’s Venus and Adonis, the Sorcerer and Spirit in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Pastore, Messaggera and Speranza in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, San Francesco Saverio in Zipoli’s San Ignacio de Loyola, La Morte in Bassani’s La Morte delusa, Luigia in Donizetti’s Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali, and Teagene in Agricola’s Achille in Sciro. Maximiliano Danta is the recipient of the National Arts Award (XVII Edition) in the category of Ancient Instruments and Voice.

His sacred repertoire includes Bach’s Short Masses in A Major BWV 234, G Minor BWV 235, and G Major BWV 236, the Christmas Oratorio BWV 248, the St. John Passion BWV 245, and the St. Matthew Passion BWV 244; the Te Deum by M. A. Charpentier; Stabat Mater and Dixit Dominus by A. Scarlatti; and Stabat Mater and Gloria by A. Vivaldi. He has recorded the role of Amore in Marco da Gagliano’s La Flora under Elena Sartori for the Glossa label and appears in G. B. Vitali’s Vespro per San Contardo d’Este with the Madrigalisti Estensi for Nova Antiqua
