Biography

Maximiliano Danta is the 2024 1st Prize Winner of the highly prestigious International Singing Competition for Baroque Opera «Pietro Antonio Cesti», one of the most important competitions for baroque music.   

Born in Uruguay in 1993, Maximiliano began his vocal studies with Beatriz Pazos. In Italy, he earned a degree in Renaissance and Baroque singing at the G. Cantelli Conservatory in Novara under the guidance of Roberto Balconi. He is currently furthering his studies in chamber music for early instruments and voices at the G. Verdi Conservatory in Turin, under the direcLon of Andrea Marchiol.

Furthermore, Maximiliano studies other instruments such as the Cornetto and the Lira da Gamba under the guidance of Jean Tubery, Maurizio Less, and Sabina Colonna Pret. He has participated in the following festivals: XII Festival of San Ignacio de Loyola (Argentina), X International Festival of American Renaissance and Baroque Music (Bolivia), International Festival of Sacred Music (Ecuador); in Italy: Marchesato Opera Festival in Saluzzo, MiTo SeNembre Musica, Back to Bach, Festival delle Nazioni, Festival Federico Cesi, Antiqua; in France: Rencontres Baroques du Montrin and Claviers en Pays d’Auch, L’été. 

He has collaborated with prominent conductors and musicians, including Gabriel Garrido, Massimiliano Toni, Luca Guglielmi, Gerd Amelung, Claudio Chiavazza, Paolo Da Col, Ruben Jais, Roberto Balconi, Elena CamoleNo, Cristina Garcia Banegas. His operatic roles include: Cupid in "Venus & Adonis" by John Blow, Sorcerer and Spirit in "Dido & Aeneas" by Henry Purcell, Pastore, Messaggera, and Speranza in "L'Orfeo" by C. Monteverdi, San Francesco Saverio in "San Ignacio de Loyola" by Domenico Zipoli, La Morte in "La Morte delusa" by G. B. Bassani, Luigia in "Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali" by G. Donizetti, and Teagene in "Achille in Sciro" by J. F. Agricola. 

He is also the recipient of the National Arts Award, XVII edition, in the category of ancient instruments and voices. His sacred repertoire includes works such as the short masses: Mass in A Major BWV 234, Mass in G Minor BWV 235, Mass in G Major BWV 236, the Christmas Oratorio BWV 248, the St. John Passion BWV 245, and the St. MaNhew Passion BWV 244 by J. S. Bach; the Te Deum by M. A. CharpenLer; the Stabat Mater and Dixit Dominus by A. Scarlab; the Stabat Mater and Gloria by A. Vivaldi. He recorded the role of Amore in "La Flora" by Marco da Gagliano, under the direction of Elena Sartori for the GLOSSA label. For the Nova Antiqua label, he participated in the recording of the Vespro per San Contardo d’Este by G. B. Vitali, together with the Madrigalisti Estensi.
