Biography
In the 2024/25 season, the young bass Bozhidar Bozhkilov, who comes from Bulgaria, will sing the role of Simone in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi at the Mascagni Festival (cond: Marcello Mottadelli, D: Giandomenico Vaccari) and Lo zio Bonzo in Puccini's Madama Butterfly at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (C: Daniele Gatti, D: Lorenzo Mariani). In Summer 2024 he debuted in Florence as Basilio in Rossini's Barbiere di Siviglia at the Maggio Musicale. During the current season he is also an ensemble member of the Plovdiv State Opera.
In 2024, he appeared as Ramfis (Aida) at the Sofia Opera and Ballet and as Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia) at the Plovdiv State Opera. He also made his debut as Cesare Angelotti (Tosca) at the Plovdiv Ancient Theater, alongside Sonya Yoncheva.
He previously made his debut at the Royal Opera House in Muscat as Antonio (Le nozze di Figaro), performed as Valens in Handel's Theodora at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and as Colline (La bohème) at the Teatro Regio di Torino.
He was a member of the prestigious Accademia Teatro alla Scala, where he sang Uberto in Paisiello's La serva padrona, Selim in Rossini's Il turco in Italia, Prince Gremin in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin and Masetto in Mozart's Don Giovanni. At the National Opera in Nancy, he sang Simone in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi.
He has performed as a concert singer in Bulgaria, Italy, Austria, Spain, France, Slovakia and Russia. In 2024 he sang Shostakovich Symphony No.14 with the Sofia Soloists Chamber Orchestra.
He has been a prizewinner in numerous competitions. In 2023 he won 1st prize at the International Solo Singers' Competition “Stojan Stojanov Gančev” in Zagreb.
He studied singing in Sofia with Prof. Niko Isakov and furthered his musical education in Modena with Raina Kabaivanska.
